The Gospel Seed

I have spent quality time in our flower garden recently, completely overhauling it and replanting hedges and flowers. Much time was spent digging up and preparing the soil, applying the right plant mix, planting and then applying the mulch. I find great joy in the finished product, and the realization that if I properly prepare the soil, plant correctly, and water then the plants will flourish and grow. The results are up to the Lord. This reminds me of the parable of the Sower in Luke 8:4-15.

There are four types of ground represented:

1. Wayside

2. Rocky

3. Thorny

4. Good.

The seed is the Word of God. The success in the growth of the seed has nothing to do with the seed itself, but everything to do with where it lands. If the seed lands on the wayside, or the rocks, or thorny ground, it will not have the root system to produce a healthy crop, or fruit. But if it lands on good, prepared ground, it will grow to perfection. Our job is to sow the seed upon prepared ground… through the power of the Spirit, a broken heart for the lost, and sharing the Gospel with love and clarity, I can trust God for fruit that will grow to perfection. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
